'Black Rose' sums up everything that was great about Phil Lynott - his passion, his ripping imagination, his unending creative drive. At the same time, it brands him as a reckless dreamer, somebody prone to sentimental outpourings and wild, elusive ideas.

The title track of Thin Lizzy's tenth album was an attempt to condense the entire Celtic spirit - the mythic figures, the history, the great writers, the musicians and hell-raisers - into a seven minute epic. ...

...there's still something heroic about that title track. Phil was trying to catch the breeze, to give voice to the very essence of his soul, to live up to his nation's finest. And if it wasn't a total success, that's due to the grand size of his ambitions and emotions.

So it's absolutely fitting that his gravestone in St Fintan's cemetary, Co Dublin should bear a dedication to the grieving legend of

Roisin Dubh, his one true love.
